Compton Acres – Dorset

One of the small gardens we like to visit is Compton Acres near Poole in Dorset, its a 10 acre site located on a slope, it has some fantastic walks through woods and other themed gardens. It has been a few years since we last visited the site. The last time we went, we took the children, they must have been 10 and 8 at the time, they are now 19 and 17.

Some major changes have taken place since our last visit; the main entrance now has a shop and restaurant. The Italian Garden has now been improved and is used for functions, both corporate and private. The day of our visit a wedding was taking place in the main function room (looks like a villa) overlooking the main garden.

The walk around the garden is peaceful, dog walkers are welcome providing the dogs are well behaved and on a lead. If you need refreshment while in the Garden, they have a small Cafe, with plenty of seating. in and outside. The Cafe overlooks Polle Harbour and the surrounding country side.

Throughout the gardens, various pieces of modern art are displayed, adding some additonal interest to the visit.

Of the themed Gardens, the Japanese garden is the most tranquil, I love Acer Trees and this one has an abundance of them, along with Pine and Azalea all surrounding a pond and waterfall.

If you want to spend a morning out and have a light lunch, Compton Acres is a nice little garden to visit. A reasonable price for entry in to the gardens. If you just want to visit the shop and restaurant, there is plenty of parking. So next time you are in Dorset and you have a morning spare, take a visit.
